OVERVIEW
The Phoenix Chapter of the National Alliance of African African American Athletes was founded in May of 2005. The Chapter models the National Organization‘s philosophy of promoting academic excellence, community service and social consciousness. This mission is delivered to African American students-athletes in the Phoenix area by enriching their exceptional talent, educational direction, character and leadership. Furthermore, the Alliance believes in celebrating those who exhibit these characteristics. The Phoenix Chapter of the National Alliance of African American Athletes stand to provide a balance between educational institutions and personal expectations.
PROGRAMS
Integrated in our program is the elite writing / tutoring workshop administered by Gene Fazio of Make a Difference Coaching Literacy. An annual Pre-SAT screening workshop Sports Sociology evaluation Financial support based on student-Athletes needs.
THE FRANKLIN D. WATKINS AWARD
The Phoenix Chapter assists in identifying the premiere High School African American Scholar football players in Arizona. The chapter hosts a recognition dinner for the nominees and seeks to provide them with celebratory activities for their achievements. Nominees are evaluated by the national chapter’s award selection committee and finalists join with other national finalist at the annual Black Tie dinner each year in February.
The Phoenix Chapter also seeks to host educational workshops for Jr. High, High School and Jr. College athletes on SAT/ACT requirements and college recruiting.
